The Smart Machines Blue Edition kit contains instructions for 4 basic models. Each model takes from 30 to 120 minutes to build. Includes diagrams for the Duck Robot, Firetruck, Train Robot, and Skier Robot. When you are finished building your kit you will have your very own remote controlled machine made from interlocking bricks, wheels and mechanical parts. This construction kit is built to last so you can take it apart and build the other models any time. You can also use your imagination and build something of our own creation.
The kit comes with everything you need except for the batteries. Be sure before you give this as a gift that you pick up 2 AA batteries and 4 AAA batteries. You don't want to have to wait longer to play with your new Robot. There are 170 pieces, 2 motors, a mainboard and a remote control. There is a 52 page manual that is full color and illustrates every step to make it nice and easy. Manufacturer recommended age is 8+. It is also made of non-toxic materials.
So lets get down to the review. My granddaughter is 6 and was excited to try this out. We chose to put together the Duck Robot since it is the easiest. It took about 1 hour to put together. None of us are mechanically inclined so I wasn't sure if we would have problems or not. We managed to assemble the Duck Robot and it even worked when we were finished. I must say that it was a bit too hard for my 6 year old granddaughter to do but that is what Grandpa's are for. After all, the instructions do say that it is recommended for ages 8 and up.
The finished product is so much fun! Who doesn't love remote control toys? The only problem we are having is deciding when to take the remote control Duck Robot apart and start building the next one. We have to be careful because there are a lot of small parts and we have a 13 month old baby in the house. This kit provides a wonderful opportunity to spend some time with your child and do something that uses their imagination and creativity. IMHO this would make an excellent Christmas or birthday present.
